Discover the Thrilling Off-Road Trails of Sedona, Arizona

Soldier Pass Trail Sedona with Sedona Rent A Jeep

Broken Arrow 4WD Offroad Trail-Moderate

Location: South of Sedona, East of Highway 179

Despite the fact that it is a short trail, this has to be one of the best in Arizona. The driving is incredibly enjoyable, and the red rock scenery is breathtakingly gorgeous. This is a very busy route, and traffic can be extremely heavy at certain times of the day. There are pull-outs available. Most of the trail is in the woods and is extremely narrow. Do not attempt to pull over anywhere other than the designated pull-outs, as this will widen the track. It’s possible that you’ll have to go back.

Please pay attention to the arrows that have been clearly put just before the one-way sections of the trail. This is also a highly popular hiking and mountain biking destination, so keep your eyes peeled and your manners up at all times. Because of the limited amount of movement required, several big rock ledges necessitate significant ground clearance. However, the barriers are not insurmountable. There is a “go-no-go” rock that you must climb less than a mile into the trek, immediately after passing through the parking lot. On the way back, there are a couple of optional fun obstacles that you can choose to skip if you’re not comfortable with them.

The most difficult hurdle is referred to as “The Steps,” and it is driven downhill (no bypass). Even though this obstacle is quite steep and will daunt an inexperienced driver, with a bit of articulation, our high-clearance-modified jeeps are made for this technically challenging terrain. Simply go at a leisurely pace. This trail is quite well-defined and straightforward to navigate.

Time & Distance: If you include the side trips, the total distance traveled is slightly more than 4 miles. Allow for two hours. It may take longer if it is a really busy weekend.

Soldier Pass 4WD Offroad Trail–Difficult

You want a fantastic 4WD trek, but you’re short on time? Take a look at this quick, rugged Soldier Pass trail. Among the area’s red rock splendor are the stair-stepped Apache Seven Sacred Pools and the peculiar Devil’s Kitchen, both of which are easily accessible by foot and are right next to the trail. When confronted with a challenge, one does not feel intimidated. Your best chance to conquer a difficult trail may be right in front of you. Located on the outskirts of Sedona, next to a charming residential neighborhood, this off-road drive is a must-do. Schnebly Hill 4WD Offroad Trail—Moderate

Location: East of Sedona, between Highway 89A and I-17.

Schnebly Hill Road is one of Arizona’s most photogenic roads because of the spectacular red rock buttes, lush green vegetation, and clear blue sky that line it. The elevation difference between Sedona and the summit of the Mogollon Rim is 2,200 feet. Several beautiful hiking routes begin right alongside the road, and they permit camping above Vista Point. It’s breathtaking from both perspectives. See elk before the sun rises. Mountain bikers who enjoy an easy ride will enjoy the ride down. A Red Rocks Pass is required if you plan to park, walk, or stop at any of the Red Rock attractions. The road is large and well-maintained, but it is bumpy overall. Shelf road makes up most of the lower section. With a bit of articulation, our high-clearance-modified jeeps can tackle this beautiful terrain.

Know Before You Go: This route above Vista Point will be closed during the winter months.

Time & Distance: one-way distance of 12 miles–the road may be traveled in an hour–but plan additional time to check out the incredible views.

Diamondback Gulch 4WD Offroad Trail, also known as the Greasy Spoon–Difficult

Location: West of Sedona, north of Highway 89A

Located just west of Sedona, in the heart of the magical Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness, the Diamondback Gulch off-road trail is a must-see. It’s not just any old dirt road; it’s a spectacular four-wheel-drive off-road trek with a lot of twists and turns. Its name accurately describes the gulch where the trail ends. You will encounter a variety of obstacles, ranging from little ledges to large boulders and deep washes. While the rollercoaster-like hills are thrilling to look at, it is the experience of driving them that will have you wanting to go back and do it all again and again. Over rugged terrain, there are steep descents and rises. When the trail is dry, the first section is easy, but it becomes slippery and challenging when wet. Because of the various side roads, route-finding can be difficult. With a bit of articulation, our high-clearance-modified jeeps are made for this exciting and challenging terrain.

Time and Distance: It is 5.8 miles. It will take you an additional 11 miles to get there and back. Allow for 2 to 3 hours.

Devil’s Bridge

Vultee Arch 4WD Offroad Trail, to Van Deren Cabin—Moderate

Location: North of Sedona

Another interesting drive just outside of Sedona. The last leg is the most difficult to complete. Look at the remains of a homesteader’s cabin. The cabin now has a metal roof, which will help it last for a longer time. Keep an eye out for rattlesnakes. The Devils Bridge walk is a must-do activity. A Red Rocks Pass is required if you plan to park, walk, or stop at any of the Red Rocks attractions. On a couple of ledges, precise tire placement is essential. Tight brush in some areas. With a bit of articulation, our high-clearance-modified jeeps are perfect for exploring this terrain.

Time & Distance: The one-way trip distance is 2.7 miles, and it takes less than an hour. Allow for extra exploration, hiking, and relaxation time.
